Information: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the notification for UGC NET December 2025. This examination is conducted to determine eligibility for Assistant Professorship and to award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) across 85 subjects. The exam will be held in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

Applications open from 07 October 2025 to 07 November 2025, and candidates must apply online through the official portal ugcnet.nta.ac.in. Eligibility is based on master’s degree marks and other specified criteria.

Important Dates

  • Online Registration Begins: 07 October 2025
  • Last Date to Apply: 07 November 2025
  • Correction Window (only in application particulars): 10 November to 12 November 2025 (up to 11:50 PM)
  • Exam Date: 31-12-2025 to 07-01-2026

Tip: Submit the application early to avoid last-minute server issues.

Application Fee 

  • General / Unreserved: ₹1,150/-
  • General-EWS / OBC-NCL: ₹600 /-
  • SC / ST / PwBD: ₹325 /-

The application fee must be paid online through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.

Age Limits

    • For JRF: Maximum age is 30 years as on 1st day of the month in which exam is concluded (i.e., 01.12.2025).
    • For Assistant Professor / PhD / Eligibility: No upper age limit.

Eligibility Criteria (December 2025)

  1. Educational Qualification
    • For General / UR / General-EWS: Must have 55% or more marks in the Master’s Degree or equivalent (without rounding off).
    • For OBC-NCL / SC / ST / PwBD / Third gender: A minimum of 50% marks in Master’s or equivalent is required.
  2. Appearing / Final Year Students
    • Candidates who are in the final year of their Master’s degree (results awaited) can also apply. But to claim JRF or Assistant Professor eligibility, they must pass the Master’s degree within 2 years from the date of UGC-NET result with required percentage. Otherwise, they will be disqualified.

Exam Format & Syllabus

  • Mode of Exam: Computer Based Test (CBT) only
  • Papers: Two
    • Paper I: 100 MCQs — Teaching & Research Aptitude
    • Paper II: 200 MCQs — Subject specific (your chosen subject)
  • Total Time: 3 hours (180 minutes) for both papers (no break)
  • Marking Scheme: Each MCQ carries 2 marks, No negative marking
  • Medium: English & Hindi; candidate must choose the medium during application — option cannot be changed later
  • Language rules: If question translation ambiguity exists, the English version will be final

How to Apply Online — Step by Step

  1. Visit the official website: ugcnet.nta.ac.in
  2. Click on Online Application Portal (active from 07 October)
  3. Register with your email ID and mobile number
  4. Log in using credentials and fill the application form (personal, academic, subject, etc.)
  5. Upload your photograph and signature in prescribed dimensions
  6. Pay the application fee online and get transaction receipt
  7. Submit the form, then download & save the Confirmation Page for your records
  8. You will receive details for admit card, exam center, etc., later.

Normalization, Key Challenge & Result

  • If exam is held in multiple shifts, raw marks will be converted into NTA Score (percentile) for fairness.
  • After exam, NTA will publish provisional answer keys. Candidates can challenge wrong questions by paying ₹200 per question (non-refundable).
  • Final answer keys will be declared, and results will be prepared based on them.
  • In case a question is dropped or ambiguous, 2 marks will be awarded to all candidates who attempted it.

Important Notes:

  • Ensure all information is filled correctly; incomplete forms may be rejected.
  • Keep your scanned documents ready: photo, signature, degree certificates, etc.
  • Read the official notification thoroughly before applying.
